Cake Mix and canned peaches combine for easy cobbler in a dutch oven

My handsome hubby Stan created this masterpiece as a scoutmaster years ago, and we also made it on family camp outs.  Now you get to have the recipe to enjoy when you cook in your dutch oven.  This peach cobbler is really good with some vanilla ice cream if you have some on hand to serve alongside with it.

Stan’s Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

58-60 oz. of canned sliced peaches, you will drain these, but save the juice

3/4 cup brown sugar, divided

1 box of yellow cake mix, dry

1//2 cup (1 stick) butter, use the real deal here

1 Tablespoon cinnamon

 

Directions:

Begin by preparing your coals, and all the basics you’ll need to know, I show you how HERE [1]

Placing 8 coals on the prepared ground.

Using a 10″ dutch oven pour in the drained peaches SAVING the drained juices

In a bowl combine the dry cake mix and approximately 1 cup to 1  – 1/3 cup of the reserved peach juice to make a batter.

Sprinkle on top of the peaches ONLY 1/2 cup of the brown sugar

Then pour the cake mix and peach juice batter on top of that.

Spread the batter evenly.

Cut the butter into small pieces and arrange evenly on top of batter.

Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar and cinnamon.

Put on the lid and put 14 coals on the top, bake for 25-35 minutes; until the center part of the cake is cooked through.

Enjoy alone or with ice cream – either way is delish!
