Kool-Aid Candied Popcorn
12 cups popped popcorn, plain or very light buttered
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/3 cup margarine (I am a real butter girl, but when I tried this recipe, margarine didn’t burn and worked MUCH better in this particular recipe)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 envelope (.13-.23 oz.) Kool-Aid Unsweetened Drink Mix – I found any red color worked best. The orange & purple worked well, blue, green & yellow you will need to add a bit of food coloring
Heat oven to 225 degrees.
Pour the popped popcorn into a large bowl.
In a large pot, bring the sugar, corn syrup and margarine to a boil over medium-high heat.Cook, stirring constantly for 3 minutes.Remove from heat and add in the baking soda and Kool-Aid. Stir well.
Spread evenly into a jelly roll pan.Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and stir, gently spread even again.Bake for another 10 minutes and repeat.Repeat this process to make a total baking time of 40 minutes. Meanwhile spread a large piece of waxed paper onto the table. When the popcorn is done, pour the popcorn out onto the waxed paper and spread out.Cool completely. Break into pieces and enjoy.Don’t miss out on additional yummy recipes! Join for our newsletter by clicking HERE
