Sugar Scrub
Sugar Scrubs are easy and wonderful gifts to give. Choose the scent and color to personalize this very appreciated gift. Use regularly to exfoliate away the roughness of winter for smooth and soft skin.
Sugar Scrub
Supplies:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/4-1/3 cup coconut oil (or use preference of oil) Essential oil * food coloringMason jar or glass container, so the color shows through.
Directions:
Step One– Put your oil in a microwave safe bowl and warm it up for 30-40 seconds, or until its melted. Put your sugar in another bowl.
Step Two– Mix the oil into the sugar, but make sure to do it just a little at a time, and only enough to make the mixture hold together a little, but do not add so much that your scrub becomes to oily. Step Three– Now you can add your essential oils. This is where you can really customize your scrub. Peppermint oil is a great choice for a Christmas gift, of course any oil will work. Begin with three drops and add as desire; however, use caution as too much fragrance makes the scrub too strong smelling and not desirable.
Step Four– This is an optional step. Divide your scrub into two or three smaller bowls, and to each add 2-3 drops of food coloring, a different color to each bowl. Add only a drop or two, mix well to incorporate, then add one at a time, as desired. Make sure to completely combine the color and sugar.
CAUTION: If you use dark colors, or make the scrub color too deep, it may absorb into the skin. Soft colors or plain white are best here.Step 5– Now its time to put it all together. If you are doing just a white scrub, just add a little at a time and pack it in with a spoon before adding more. If you chose to do colors like me, choose the pattern that you want and follow the same process. I just rotated between red and white until the jar was full, but MAKE SURE to pack the scrub into the jar in between the colors!
Step 6– Once the jar is full, put the lid on and its ready to give away.
If you would like to decorate the lid, here are a few options:
- Trace the lid on desired paper, cut our then modge podge paper onto metal lid to protect from moisture.
- There are many available printables on line for lids
- Have kids, or you, hand draw on paper, then use modge podge to protect paper
Step 7 – Tie on a bow if desired. Viola! Your done!

Such a pretty and unique gift! I love the idea of peppermint in the winter. 🙂 Thanks for linking up to Let’s Get Real!
This is so pretty, and such a nice picture 🙂
This is so clever. I’ve used a lot of sugar scrubs, which actually are salt scrubs. Are there any challenges with the sugar actually melting?
Great present, my nieces would fall in love with this!
Love the color combination. Pinned it!!!
I notice that everything is in glass jars. I am making my first scrub ever this week. Can I use a plastic decorative bowl? I am working on this for gifts for teachers and Professional Assistant’s Day in 2014. Thanks
The peppermint would be so refreshing! What a fabulous gift idea!
