Freezer Jam

Best Easy No Cook Strawberry Freezer Jam

Easy Strawberry Freezer Jam

Have you ever wondered how to make strawberry freezer jam?

Well, I have taught so many people how to make freezer jam that I’ve lost count now, and I can teach you too!

This type of  homemade Freezer Strawberry Jam is so delicious because it uses fresh fruit; making the taste absolutely phenomenal.

Seriously,  there’s no comparison to the purchased type. As you spoon or slather on the taste of summer strawberries, you’ll think of relaxing sunshine and unwind while you enjoy,

It’s best to make this recipe when the strawberries are peak freshness, in season and inexpensive and economical.

I like to store the prepared jam in small individual freezer bags so I have it available anytime of the year. The containers and baggies I double protect by placing them in a larger bag, before storing in the freezer.

Here’s a nifty trick:  I keep a shoe box in my freezer where I place the freezer jam filled baggies which prevents them from sliding around and getting lost in the shuffle of any other food in the freezer. It also makes them easy to find and rotate

Another idea, is to make up batches of the easy no cook strawberry freezer jam, pour it into small containers with tight fitting lids, and freeze it (as directed on the package) to give as gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays — or just because. Click HERE for the free labels I had made just for you!

This delicious Easy Strawberry Freezer Jam would be so yummy on my moist homemade CornBread or for a special treat on the No Sour Dough Start Artisan Bread , now that would be amazing! Let’s make jam!!!

No Cook Strawberry Freezer Jam

Ingredients:

1 box of pectin.

2 quarts of strawberries *disclaimer:  If any of the berries look like you will have to trim off spots, or areas that are not ripe, buy a bit more.  If you have extra berries….nummy, you get to eat them!  (check on the box/instructions of pectin for amount to be sure)

4 cups of white sugar (again, check the box/instructions of the pectin)

Containers with tight fitting lids  (disposable or even glass jam jars would make darling gifts) that hold 1/2 cup to 2 cups / zip lock freezer baggies.

Directions:

Wash and dry the containers you have chosen; not necessary with new freezer baggies. Easy Strawberry Freezer Jam

est Easy No Cook Strawberry Freezer Jam

Cut the strawberries into large chunks, if you like some texture to your jam.

If you like a smooth jam, simply chop the berries really small.

Now, with the chunked berries, mash them a little with a potato mashers IF you like little bits of fruit in your jam.

Easy Strawberry Freezer Jam

Best Easy No Cook Strawberry Freezer Jam

In a separate bowl measure the exact amount of prepared fruit as called for in the recipe – don’t be tempted to add or decrease.

In another bowl measure the exact amount of sugar no less or no more – the exact amount called for.

This step prevents mistakes!

Easy Strawberry Freezer Jam

Best Easy No Cook Strawberry Freezer Jam

Stir the sugar into the prepared fruit, mix it well and let it stand for 10 minutes stirring frequently – no cheating here!

Pectin, which is what causes the jam to set up, is in the box along with the instructions.

Take out the packet and pour it into a small saucepan adding in the required amount of water (which you will find on the instruction sheet in the box).

The mixture will start out lumpy, but keep stirring until it comes to a boil on high heat.Easy Strawberry Freezer JamStir CONSTANTLY!!!  It burns easily and you don’t want to waste it.

Boil, still stirring for 1 (ONE) full minute.

Remove the pan from the heat and stir the pectin mixture into the fruit.

Stir constantly until the sugar is COMPLETELY DISSOLVED and no longer grainy, about 5 minutes.

This is very important or your jam will ‘sugar’ and be grainy, very distasteful to eat.

Notice my little trick of lining a measuring cup with the baggie so I can fill it easily,

Pretty snazzy, right!

Fill whatever containers you desire.

Disposable, baggies, glass… Make sure to date and label them.

IMPORTANT STEP:  You must let the jam, in the baggies or containers sit at room temperature for 24 (count ’em 24) hours

This allows time for the sugar to completely dissolve and the pectin to do its work.

  • AFTER 24 hours, the jam is ready to eat, put in the freezer and take to someone who could use a little happiness.
  • Note:  When the jam is in the freezer, it never completely sets up hard because of the sugar content, so don’t worry when it’s not solid.
  • When taking the jam out of the freezer, allow it to thaw in the refrigerator.
  • Refrigerated jam will last up to 3 weeks and in the freezer for 1 year.
  • This jam is amazing in homemade shakes, on waffles or pancakes (click HERE for my recipe) on toast, you name it!

Not ALL Sweets to Prank on April Fools

April Fools Fake Out Prank Food

Are you looking for the Best April Fools Fake Out Prank Foods that are not sweet but for a meal?

No worries because  I have FOUR recipe ideas that are all simple, and all fake-out, prank and are yummy and delicious too!

If you want a great way to prank your family or friends with creative food that will fool them, or maybe something a little sneaky or simply hilarious?  Well, these Not All Sweet April Fools Foods below will help you joke with good humor and yummy tastiness!

First lets talk about WHY play tricks at April Fools?

Here’s my reason:)

April Fools is a perfect time to tease your kids, family and friends, and imaginative food is a wonderful way to creative memories.

While the kids were at home, April Fools allowed for ‘practice’ time to play a good natured joke or two.

My handsome hubby Stan and I felt it is an important life-skill for our kids to know how to take, and give, good-natured-teasing (never sarcastic or mean-spirited).

They all learned this concept very well – too well, I think. In fact you can see how our oldest son, Derek pranked us…and how we got him back HERE

Anyway, a central aspect of gags and nice mischief is learning to be a good sport. It’s OK to laugh at yourself!  Actually it’s healthy!

It’s a lesson to learn at home so you know how to handle yourself when you’re outside ‘your comfort zone’.  People LIKE and RESPECT a person who can take a good tease.

So, let’s get cooking and have some fun!

Best Funny Not All Sweet April Fools Food

There have many things over the years I have done to fool and tease my kids and family.

  • I have colored the milk with food coloring
  • I have made a meatloaf in cake pans, then covered it with masked potatoes and decorated it to look like a cake
  • Frozen cereal in the bowl and then put it out
  • I have made this candy HERE but I decorated it with spring colored or other type of sprinkles

And so many other things, but I wanted to share these FOUR with you that maybe you haven’t seen before

 Free-For-All Spaghetti

Once everyone has their kitchen gadget, put the cooked and drained pasta in the center of the table. Pour the sauce over the pasta. Everyone pulls the amount they want towards them and all eat right from the table – this makes for many laughs as they struggle and watch the others try to eat spaghetti with their not so user friendly utensil too.

Instructions:

The utensils – gather one odd kitchen gadget per person. I have 2 fun options tossed in there also

Put them in a brown paper bag and have each person choose one out with their eyes closed.

OR

Write the name of each kitchen gadget on a small piece of paper, fold and put in a bowl. Have each person pick out a paper from the bowl for their assigned utensil for the dinner.

Stuff Pig Sandwich April Fools Fake Out Prank Food

My hubby Stan helped me with the pig creation – THANKS sweetie!

I originally found the idea for pig shaped bread in an old Cub Scout Pow Wow Book, in the “Rhodes Dough” section, and decided it would be a perfect thing to ‘stuff’ for April Fools Day.  It turned out so awesome looking and tasted just as good too!

Ingredients:

Frozen bread dough, or you can make your own,

1 lb. loaf per pig

Parchment paper

1 Raisin

1 egg, beaten

Optional:

thin sliced ham, cheese, spinach or lettuce, sliced tomatoes, any condiments or sandwich ingredients you prefer.

Directions:

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough to a rectangle about 12″ x 8″

Make the pig right on parchment paper so it is ready to bake as you form it.April Fools FoodThis will make your pig turn out better, since it won’t have to be transferred.April Fools Food Pig Dough

Cut the front of the ‘face’ taking off about 3″ at the widest part.

To make a flared snout, pinch the ‘nose’.April Fools Pig Dough 2Carefully move the lower part of the ‘jaw’ to form a mouth.April Fools Pig Dough 3Taking the slanted portion, divide into two large pieces and one small piece.April Fools Pig Dough 4

Roll, or pat, one large piece into a flat rectangle and cut into two triangles for ears.

Brush the entire rectangle (minus the cut off portion) with a beaten egg.

Attach short base of ears to head. On the ear in the back, fold tip over.

The front ear, fold if over.

Use a bit more of the beaten egg for glue.April Fools Pig Dough 4

Shape the other large piece into 4 tear drops and slice part way up.

Two balls will be a bit larger than the other two, which will give some dimension for the position of the feet.April Fools Pig Dough 5Position the hoofs on the body.

Spread to resemble a hoof.

Again, use the beaten egg to help attach the dough.April Fools Pig Dough 5

Roll the small piece of dough into a rope and curl for the tail and place in desired position.

Use the beaten egg to attach.April Fools Pig Dough 6With the tip of a sharp knife, make a slit in the dough and push the raisin in part way.

This will prevent it from popping out when it rises and bakes.

Brush the entire pig with the remaining beaten egg.April Fools Pig Dough 7

Allow to rise for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat oven to 350 degrees.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, or until the bread is done and cooked through.April Fools Pig Dough 8Cool completely.

Slice the pig horizontally from the hoof side up to about the ears, but not all the way through.

You want to keep the pig attached to itself towards the top.April Fools Pig Dough 9

Fill with sliced ham, cheese, sliced tomato, lettuce/spinach, whatever you desire.

Ingredients:

JELLO Berry Blue Jello

Swedish Candy Fish

Ice Cubes

Clear cups

Directions:

Make the blue jello according to the package directions for QUICK SET method.Jello & Fish1

A HUGE trick to making any flavor of jello: when you add the boiling water, STIR for a FULL THREE MINUTES.

Do not stop and no less than 3 minutes. This steps prevents that icky thick layer on the bottom.Jello & Fish2According to the quick set method add in the ice cubes until it thickens. Jello & Fish3Take out any remaining ice.Jello & Fish4

After removing the ice cubes, pour jello into clear cups.

Insert a few Swedish fish, pushing them down into the jello.   Jello & Fish5Put in the refrigerator to chill and set up completely.Jello & Fish6 About 5-15 minutes before serving insert a fish part way in.

Do not do this step too early as it begins to dissolve the fish and does not appear appetizing.

These are best made and eaten same day.

Sweet Grilled Cheese Sandwich

April Fools Fake Out Prank Food

I saw this idea on the internet somewhere, but I can’t remember where and couldn’t find it again, so I ‘winged it’ and I think it turned out great!  Can you tell this sandwich isn’t a grilled cheese it’s really a pound cake with frosting?

Ingredients:

Pound cake, I used a Betty Crocker mix

Vanilla flavored frosting

Yellow & Red food coloring

Butter or Margarine

Directions:

If using a pound cake mix, prepare according to box directions.

Sweet Grilled Cheese 1Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and coat well with spray release.Sweet Grilled Cheese 2

Spread out the batter as evenly as possible, then give it a few sharp taps (like you are dropping it, but only from 2-3 inches height) to cause the air bubbles to the top.Sweet Grilled Cheese 3

When the cake is baked, cool completely.

Slice the pound cake in thick slices, of approx. 2 inches.

Using a fry pan, heat the stove to medium.

Spread a bit of softened butter or margarine on one side of matching slices of pound cake – on the sides which will be the outside.Sweet Grilled Cheese 4Fry in the pan on ONE side – butter side down, just until nice and golden brown.Sweet Grilled Cheese 5

In a small bowl, spoon in desired amount of prepared frosting.

Add in drops of red and yellow as needed to create an orange ‘cheese’ appearance.Sweet Grilled Cheese 6Spread a bit of the frosting on one slice, with enough to squish out to look like melted cheese.Sweet Grilled Cheese 7Top with another slice of cake to form a sandwich.

Fry to toast really well and browned nicely so it resembles a grilled cheese sandwich!April Fools Fake Out Prank Food

  • Place canned pizza dough or crescent dough cut to the shape of the Pie Iron. Spoon in a little pizza sauce, a few toppings, some cheese, top with dough and cook over the fire for individual pizzas.
  • Place a trimmed thick style tortilla in, then a taco filling, cheese, another trimmed tortilla and cook.  A taco, or do this with a re-fried bean mixture for a burrito.

This is the first time I had tried a

Mini Cobbler or Woof Em Stick and it was pretty cool!

Stretch the small sized canned biscuit dough around the Mini Cobbler or Woof Em Stick wooden dowel, or metal top so it forms a cup and

Then cook the  Mini Cobbler or Woof Em Stick low and slow over the camp fire to get it baked all the way through.

TELESCOPING ROASTING SKEWERS

These Telescoping Skewers are GREAT for roasting!

Of course I had to start with the traditional hot dogs  😉

A huge advantage is that they don’t fall off because they are held by TWO prongs, so no crying when food is lost in the fire.

Try wrapping your hot dog in a canned biscuit and roasting it slowly on the Skewer

Rotate cooking over the coals until your hot dog wrapped in a biscuit is all nicely golden brown – DELISH!

As I mentioned, the double prongs are wonderful to hold food and kabobs really work well on these Skewers

To use the Skewer I have these delicious recipes for you:

EXTRA LONG BAMBOO ROASTING STICKS

While searching for ideas to bring to YOU I found these really awesome extra long environmentally safe, 100% biodegradable 36″ Bamboo Roasting Sticks!

  1. These Roasting Sticks are really sturdy and durable – just don’t get the flame right on them to burn up the bamboo, I mean they are wood, right.
  2. The points on the end of the Roasting Sticks are semi-pointed so that it will go through food, but not stick into the kids or you  😀
  3. And the length of these Roasting Sticks is really nice because everyone is able to be back a very safe distance from the fire, but still cook their food.
  4. I liked the fact that there are so many in the package for a large group, since there usually a bunch. They are disposable; HOWEVER, you can easily cut off the end of the Roasting Stick at an angle and you will have plenty to reuse it again!

Ooohh so many things to try with these Roasting Sticks, of course we had to give Kabobs a whirl.  If you don’t have time to make your own, stop by your local meat counter and pick up some there. Simply re-thread from the wood skewers they have and you’re all set!

Here’s my own Kabob recipes for you to make if you’d like:

You can’t leave out a roasted marshmallow, and I really liked how long this Roasting Stick is, especially for the kiddos or when the wind shifts to keep the smoke out of  your face and eyes.

KABOB BASKETS

Have you ever tried these really neat baskets?  I like them because the vegetables all stay together, the meat doesn’t slip and turn on the metal rod of a thin kabob stick and it’s so versatile!

Just look at the possibilities of cooking with these Kabob Baskets. * One tip: you will need to adjust slightly if you want to cover your food with the lid of the BBQ grill when cooking, but I was able to adjust do just fine.

To make these zucchini wedges I simply cut them into wedges and put them into a bowl.

Covered them generously with oil, your preference as to what type.

Sprinkled with seasoning and gave them a toss.

Now for a real treat, I picked up some salmon pieces that fit perfectly in the Kabob Baskets and are usually on sale and extremely affordable.

Use plenty of oil since fish is so lean and it will stick like crazy in the basket if you don’t.

Season with your favorite seasoning and grill in the Kabob Basket.  It was gourmet-down-town-pay a ton of money fabulous but on a dime!

Cod works really well with Kabob Basket in the   too.

Lastly, just to show you how easy-peasy, I picked up a premade kabob at the butcher side of the grocery store to grill in the Kabob Basket and look at how mouth watering it came out!
