BEST Ever St. Patrick’s Day FUN Foods
St. Patrick’s Day is a day I tried to make special – just because!
When the kids were young they made Leprechaun traps that might be considered silly by some, but they were serious business to them.
The ‘Leprechaun’ was always prepared with a treat and a note of Sorry, they didn’t catch him this year and better luck next time.
It was MUST that there is a Treasure Hunt such as this:
- Leprechaun footprints to lead to the prize when the kids were young.
- As they got older I had treasure hunt clues leading to places around the house.
- When a bit older (yes as teens and even still as adults they enjoy the tradition), I have been known to contact neighbors for their permission to leave clues in their mailbox, on their porch, or a chair in their yard; with a clue for the hunt.
Green candy, gold chocolate coins were a constant prize of the treasure.
Food for the day is a celebration and was based on how busy I the day is.
- Breakfast menu options:
Green pancakes – HERE is my Grandma’s recipe
OR use a packaged product to make it easier.
Either way, simply add in green food coloring for the holiday fun.
And cook as directed.
Perfectly green Pancakes!

Add in pieces of ham, or serve the scrambled eggs as is.
And there you have Amazing Green Eggs & Ham!

Another idea is to place the scrambled eggs inside a spinach tortilla or alongside green toast.
My local in-store bakery will make to order green bread. Check around store bakery’s, I’ll bet you can find one to accommodate this festive idea.

Carrie, I love that you did treasure hunts with the kids!
Special green food is what memories are made of!
Melinda thank you for coming by, I always look forward to your visits. You are a sweet gal and fabulous. I know you love purple, but I’m glad you’re ok with the green, lol.
Carrie, you are such a fun mom! I love this! What’s even cooler is that now you’ll get to do this with the grandkids! And your kids will pass down the fun things you created with them! How fun!
Aaawww thanks Nikki, that is sweet and I wanted to make a way create a bond and memories along the way. It worked for our family:) I appreciate that you stopped by.
Aw, man I love St. Patrick’s Day, too and definitely want to try a few that you suggested, especially the pancakes 🙂
Let me know what the girls think Janine! The girls are going to LOVE it!!!
I like to sneak a little spinach into my kids’ eggs in the morning on St. Patrick’s Day. The one day of the year their food is supposed to be unnaturally green so they usually don’t question it. 🙂 Spinach usually adds a little texture, a lot of color, but no taste.
You’re an awesome mom and sneaky too, hahaha. LOVE IT!
Hey lady,
I love all this green food, especially the pancakes. That would be so much fun to prepare. All of these things would be perfect for St. Patrick’s day.
Blessings,
Diane
Thank you Diane and I know you do a great corned beef and St. Patrick’s recipe yourself! I’m honored you came by.
So tasty! I was wondering how you managed to get green bread!! I didn’t know bakery’s did that!!
