Old Fashioned Soft Ginger Snap Cookies
These are one of the most beloved cookies through generations!
I found through my research that Ginger Cookies were a common dessert in the 1800’s when one had the ingredients.
This is my own recipe that I came up with to make the most soft and tender cookies possible. The secret ingredient to keep it soft was given to me by my friend Sherry – butter flavored shortening! The balance of molasses, spices and ingredients compliment each other to make this a very special cookie that will be a favorite in your home too.

Old Fashioned Soft Ginger Cookies
3/4 cup butter flavored shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup molasses
1 tsp. vanilla
2 ¼ cups flour
2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
Line cookie sheet or jelly roll pan with parchment or coat with spray release.
In a bowl, combine the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda and salt; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, blend the butter flavored shortening and brown sugar until well combined and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the egg,
then molasses and vanilla.Slowly add the flour mixture.
Chill 20-30 minutesForm into 1/2” balls and roll in the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
Bake 7- 8 minutes or until light golden brown.
Take the pan out of the oven when cookies are set on edges and still puffy.Allow cookies to sit on baking sheet for 3-4 minutes to cool, and then place on wire rack to finish cooling.
