Gifts for All!

All the Family should Feel the LLLOOVVVEEE!

When a new baby arrives in a family it is definitely a time to celebrate. However, siblings oftentimes are left out, which can cause jealousy, particularly if they are already feeling displaced.  It has long been a tradition in my family to give a gift of some sort to the siblings, along with the present for the new baby.

I keep some things on hand and watch for sales of items that can last without a problem. Here are just a few ideas:

Siblings:

Candy that is appropriate for all ages, such as Fun Dip Candy

Suckers, Dumdums for young and larger ones for the older kids

Skittles are small enough for toddlers, while all ages like them. The individual sizes are terrific for this.

Young kids always like fruit snacks or roll-ups

Puzzles, games or toys (check your local $1 store for terrific stock up items)

Of course you can always make it more personalized to the child/children

Ideas for a baby gift of items that might be new to you, or are easily forgotten, however very useful.

Baby:

Burp pads  – click HERE for my easy, very appreciated make-it-yourself baby burp pads

Binki Clips are the best! They hook to the little boys or girls clothing and keep those little gems close by. I have an easy tutorial so you can make them yourself very inexpensively.  Click HERE

If it’s a baby girl, these adorable barefoot baby sandals are perfect for those little feet. Click HERE

Bibs

Baby nail clippers – not regular small nail clippers, but one that is specifically made for baby so the delicate skin is not nicked or cut.

Infant toothpaste – generally for ages 3 months and up

Desitin, or generic cream for diaper rash

Baby Q-tips  – these are the best invention!!!

Sanitizer – I like to get the little holder and sanitizer in blue or pink (or generic to have on hand) from “Bath and Body Works” for mom to attach to her diaper bag

Rattles – these homemade baby bell rattles  by The Creative Homemaker are awesome!

If you really want to do something special don’t forget mom and dad.

Parents:

I have really useful and helpful tips for taking in a meal, and TWO delicious recipes for make & bake, or to freeze for a busy day. Click HERE

M&M’s or preferred candy

Over the counter sleep aid – usually for dad, mom doesn’t sleep till the kid is about 18 and then it is still questionable.

Ear plugs

Door hanger with the front print: Ssshhh mom and baby sleeping. Please come back later.          The back print: Please knock softly, baby sleeping.

A fun, upbeat movie or two for ‘the all nighters’.  Here are a few of my favorite oldies but GOODIES!

  • “What’s Up Doc?” With Barbra Steisand & Ryan O’Neal. Screwball comedy, a luggage mixup, demolition of a hotel room and the funniest & best chase scene ever!
  • “Neptune’s Daughter” with Esther Williams, Red Skelton (classic good humor!), Betty Garrett (she is amazing in this) and Ricardo Montalban. The polo team is in town; sister Betty wants to marry them – all if she could – and the swimming is fabulous.
  •  “The Great Race” with Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk and a huge cast of great actors. The cast is turned loose on a round-the-world race booby-trapped by some  bad guys and ends in a colossal pie fight!
